For Today

Lord of my soul,

I call You “Father”

But which insults You more –

To be or not to be –

I do not know.

Since you desire to be,

Father of Me,

Reclaimer of the refuse of my life,

So I will speak.

I feel Your hands on mine,

Prying open my clenched fists,

Hushing the throbbing silence,

Holding me inexorably

From the inevitability of my humanness.

I do not know what You are,

But Who,

And that is sufficient,

For You know all of me.
